Dr. George A. Luiken

Dr. George LuikenDr. George Luiken recently joined The Ghosh Center team, after being introduced to the Center by Dr. Gerald Hagin, a long-time friend and former Navy colleague.  Dr. Luiken graduated from the University of Iowa Medical School, followed by an internship, internal medicine residency and hematology/oncology fellowship at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego, California. He is board-certified in hematology and oncology.

He was on staff at the Naval Medical Center while on active duty until 1992 and was head of the division of hematology/oncology from 1986-1992. From 1992-1994, Dr. Luiken did locum tenems work, returning to the Navy hospital as a civilian staff hematologist/oncologist from 1994-2012. Since that time, he has worked part-time as a locum tenem physician, substituting for hematologists/oncologists at facilities in San Diego (Mercy Hospital, Grossmont Hospital, El Centro Regional Medical Center) and Redding, California, as well as hematology/oncology clinics in Wyoming and Utah.

Dr. Luiken served for several years as the internal medicine dean for the Christian Medical and Dental Association annual CME course, where he helped organize the annual continuing medical education (CME) course for missionary physicians. The course was aimed at assisting missionary physicians in obtaining enough CME credits to keep their U.S. and Canadian licenses current. The course, conducted on alternating years in Kenya and Malaysia, was a true highlight for all the volunteers who were involved in teaching. Dr. Luiken believes in the power of prayer for all his patients and is willing and happy to pray with you if you choose.

He and his wife Sheila they have two sons.  They have a labradoodle named Lilah (or Delilah when she is bad). Dr. Luiken and his wife both love to cook. Now that their youngest son is in college, they can travel together to some of the work assignments. His hobbies include golf, art and travel.
